Can you spot Elsie, tucked away in the middle of the photo? She got into all the pictures I took yesterday, without me noticing until I looked through on the computer! There are more photos on the Hedgewitch blog, if you're interested - I'll not to replicate those here, but just do a little gallery of things miscellaneous at the end of May. Previous years I always wished I'd taken a decent set of photos late spring before everything starts bursting out all over (and exhausting itself in the process) so I made a point of it this year. In case you were wondering, the unattractive plastic bucket is my noxious nettle brew (hence the heavy rock on top, to keep inquisitive little ones out).

Hi Hedgewitch,
Where would we be without herbs?
I have so many now, I think if they were removed there wouldn't be much else left :)
I always make comfrey tea for the plants, and that smells just as disgusting as nettle tea.
Oh the joys of an organic gardener :)
Hi Cheryl, its good to see you! I think herbs are great because they are so beautiful in all their various colours and with all their amazing scents plus they have the beneficial uses for our health and for attracting insects and helping wildlife .. they do so much more than just look pretty! Thank you for mentioning about the comfrey - I must start adding it to the pongy brew!! I also want to try something this year that I read about which is to just take the leaves and lay them alongside plants like a mulch so that as they decay they go into the soil and give it their goodness. I don't have much comfrey in the garden and I like to let it flower because I love the purple bells, they have bees in them ALL the time (that's why I have a little pot of it near the chairs so I can watch them while I drink my tea). And I use the leaves to make oil and salve. But I'll put the big old leaves in the bucket :-)
Good to know about your blog i have read and i am very inspired from your ideas..
Thank you for post..
Your herbs look lovely, they are at their best at this time of the year aren't they? I haven't come acros the idea of laying comfrey leaves down as a mulch, I have lots of comfrey so shall give that a try. I still need to make comfrey ointment if ever it's dry enough to pick the leaves!
