Clean Energy

I loved this little video clip by Friends of the Earth. Its about challenging the big energy companies who are monopolising the market and their hold over government. These companies have a financial interest in pushing 'dirty' fuels at the expense of small companies and communities producing cleaner energy. If you are interested, you can find out more about the 'Final Demand' campaign and sign a petition requesting the government hold an investigation into the issue.

A very timely post! Energy prices are ridiculous. We are all electric and our bills are extortionate! Perhaps we should all refuse to pay, they couldn't put the whole of the UK in prison and if they did at least it would be warm in there ;-)

I thought I had commented on your Swan post but I think I must have read it late at night and intended to come back and comment the next day. I di enjoy it though, you obviously have some nice places to walk. I was glad to see your mention of not feeding food intended for humans to water fowl. Bread, particularly white has very little nutritional value to any bird and there is a horrible condition called Angel Wing which can afflict geese and swans and to a lesser extent ducks which is thought to be caused by bread etc. It causes a deformity of the wing which results in inability to fly so making the affected bird easy prey for predators.

I see from your previous post that you are going to have a very colourful garden with the Sunflowers and of course the birds will love them when they go to seed :-)

Hi Hedgewitch

A thought provoking post and an issue that does indeed need tackling.
As a nation we seem to take three steps forward and two steps back. We never quite get to where we should be. People power is the answer and we can all make a difference if we put our mind to it.

Tku for your sweet message, it is much appreciated and brings much warmth with it. These last few weeks have been extremely difficult but we are getting there :)

Hello ShySongBird, many thanks indeed for the info on Angel Wing.. you know, I think all those families feeding our ducks and swans bread would be horrified if they knew this (as I was when I found out!) .. its just something everyone does. I'm grateful to those who have a greater knowledge of these things for passing on this important information. Am hoping when we turn up with our sweetcorn in future others will remark on it and it will give us chance to spread the word.

Yes, I love sunflowers and try to have loads all over the place. I find if I start them off indoors early and then move them out to the growhouse then I can have the first ones flowering in May if I'm lucky (not that I'm obsessed or anything, lol!)

Hello lovely Cheryl .. its good to see you :-) Just wanted you to know that you're missed when you can't be with us for a while. Always a hug here when you need one x

PS: so glad you both stopped by - I saw a goldfinch this morning (for the first time) and was so excited! I was sitting up in bed and it just hopped up onto the flat roof about 3 feet away on the other side of the window, think it was pecking about in the guttering. Made my day - great to be able to share it with you nature-loving ladies xx
